Warren G. Harding was president in the 1920’s. Calvin Coolidge was the vice president during this time. When Warren G. Harding passed away in 1923 Coolidge gained control of the country and took over as our next president. Calvin Coolidge was a good president as he brought honesty and a carefulness to not let anything bad happen. Where as Harding was a disappointment in that he brought shame and made some very bad decisions while in office. Harding had enemies because he never took a firm stand on issues. The job of being president got to him and he was unable to make thoughtful decisions for our country. Coolidge believed the government should only have a small role in the U.S. economy. He cut taxes and maintained tight control over the amount the government could spend. Their was never a depression during his term and also the economy sustained and thrived during his time. Coolidge ran for reelection in 1928 but was not reelected. Our country paid as the year after he left office, the U.S. entered an economic depression. No significant changes in the structure of the U.S. governmental system occurred during Coolidge's presidency. Cutting taxes and balancing the federal budget were policies adopted during Harding's years as president. Restricting immigration to the United States also began. These plans were still in progress as Coolidge was in office
